Today, I was dumbstruck when someone asked me why I put on my contact lens before attending particular meetings. I never really thought about why. I've been doing it ever since I started work (7 years ago)... wearing lens for certain meetings. Except that when I was a junior officer, I rarely had to attend meetings so it was not so obvious.
I pondered about the reason (or a reason I should have had) and couldn't come up with much.
It's just that when I'm in a crowd of strangers that I'm not comfortable with, I prefer to look more presentable. The "book-worm" image, as my friends call it, is really not suitable for socialising, at least for me.
It's like the difference between how you dress up when you are at home and when you are outside your home. At least for me.
