A few days ago my dad decided to give me a lecture on 'Food Safety'. He had noticed the M*sl*ti fish essence plus (pati ikan haruan + gamat) that I had bought a few weeks ago along with Ay*m Br*nds chicken essence.
The price of both product was about the same, almost RM40 for a box of six. He pointed out to me that unlike Ay*m Br*nds, there was no manufacturer address on the M*sl*ti product. There was a distributor's address but not a manufacturer's. There are a lot of products out there, some repacked to fit-in and look local, that do not have a manufacturer's address.
So?
He said that his colleagues (lecturers) had talked about this before. A manufacturer is responsible for designing and producing a product (in this case, the food/supplement). If a product does not have a manufacturer address, who is going to take legal responsibility if the product is contaminated? How can the local authority check the manufacturing practice of the factories? We don't even know where these distributors get the product from.
There has been a lot of food contamination and food safety cases. Mercury or lead found in food. Harmful melamine in baby's milk powder. Dangerous additives. Insanely high levels of sodium.
